Geologists set copper reserves of Magadan Reg site at 2 mln tns
MAGADAN, Jan 14 (PRIME) – Geological studies show that copper reserves of the Talnikovaya 1 site on the Koni Peninsula in the Magadan Region may amount to 2–2.5 million tonnes, the region’s Natural Resources and Environment Minister Oleg Kosolapov told PRIME on Friday.
“All wells confirmed presence of the mineral resource. These ores are copper-bearing. Almost all wells confirmed this,” he said.
“The Talnikovaya 1 samples are estimated at about 2–2.5 million tonnes of copper. This is a good amount of reserves, and the Talnikovaya 1 has not been fully explored. We understand that the reserves will grow even more.”
The inferred resources of copper of the Magadan Region amount to 44 million tonnes, but the figure may be raised taking into account the latest data.
“Development of the fields in the Magadan Region should be launched in several years. Exploration will continue this year, and then we are to build roads and power transmission lines to the most promising sites,” he said.
